YouTube sensation Pewdiepie who is known for his funny content and gameplay videos has once again been a target of social and mainstream media. The YouTube star is renowned for his live streams where he plays games in real-time and generates sponsors’ money for donations and income purposes.
A few months back, Pewdiepie had to lose a long term contract with Disney and YouTube because of his imitation as a Nazi and usage of anti-semantic messaging on his channel which were light hearted comedy videos but the news hype led to the cancellation of his contracts. Once again, Felix also called by his YouTube name, Pewdiepie, has been in the limelight of news because of using the word “nigger” on online stream which happened while playing a game. This led to a chain reaction where people from YouTube and mainstream media started to criticize him ruthlessly which was unjustified. He apologized immediately after using the word but the newspapers and articles did not spare him.
Felix said,
It’s not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it. That’s not it at all. I’m just an idiot,
Youtubers like KSI started to insult Pewdiepie and demanded severe measures to be taken against him. The stance by KSI was disapproved by fellow YouTubers like Fazebanks, Dramaalert, and several other eminent content producers.
The proponents of Pewdiepie have taken a firm stance that his reaction wasn’t intentional plus it occurred in the heat of the moment. Pewdiepie was trying to kill an opponent while playing his game, but after several failed attempts, he got irritated and in that moment of anger and frustration, the offensive word “nigger” slipped.
The fans of YouTube have stated that such mistakes happen and there are much more serious and important issues to talk about than Pewdiepie’s unintentional racial slur.
Yesterday, Pewdiepie posted a video on YouTube with the title “my response” which is almost 1 minute and 30 seconds long. The YouTube star apologized and termed himself an idiot who is not prone to committing mistakes.
Pewdiepie has a huge fanbase of around 55 million subscribers on YouTube making his channel the most subscribed channel, his content is based on reaction videos, cringe videos, and the game plays which are interesting and fun to watch.
