Facebook is undoubtedly the largest social media community with a user base of more than 2 billion active users. With the expansion into new markets, Facebook has identified a new market segment targeting the kids. The age limit is 13 or above for the kids to be able to use the official app.
The aim of this app is to involve kids in the process of communication through the means of chatting with the faculty of using photos, text messages, and other media resources. These kid accounts on the Messenger would be isolated from the existing accounts as separate accounts from the regular accounts would be needed. The Kids Messenger app allows the children to have their accounts authenticated by their parents using the child’s name. The app will be compatible with non-cellular devices like iPod and tablets to ensure that the devices don’t hinder the work of parents or adults living with the children.
As of now, Kids Messenger is only available in the United States of America on the Apple iOS, but Facebook has stated that this app will soon be accessible on the Android platform.
This app is supposed to introduce children to the exposure towards technology at an early age with the resources that are suitable for their age. While we have seen the exploitation of YouTube’s platform with inappropriate content for children, this initiative by Facebook is likely to solve the problem of diverging the internet resources from just the blanket content for all users to specific age-restricted and need-based content. The app has been tested successfully on kids aging between 6 to 11.
The Kid Messenger won’t feature any advertisements or in-app purchase options to ensure that the purpose of its creation is met without leading the kids towards the path of going astray. The app has made with several eye-catching and attractive features like filters and lenses that give the app a funky look. The app has also been embedded with the features of artificial intelligence. The app is in collaboration with several educational institutions to expand the knowledge base and augment the thinking capability of kids. The app has a feature that allows the kids to know facts about different animals on daily basis with the help of data provided by World Wildlife Federation.
