Almost every woman who has looked forward to pregnancy, is at the stage or has been through it knows the struggle of making one decision during the nine months of carrying a baby – whether or not should she exercise?
Some would nod yes, some would warn no, others would just confess they don’t really know. However, a new study points in the go-ahead direction as it reveals the benefits that the baby gets when his pregnant mother works out.
As per this latest research, which has been carried out on mice, exercise during pregnancy improves the metabolic health of the child. Previously, studies have said that if obese women exercise during pregnancy, their offspring benefit.
However, this study is the first of its kind as it shows the positive effects gained by the child of a woman, regardless of her weight, when she exercises during pregnancy.
What Did This New Study Reveal?
This new study, which will be presented at the 2019 Experimental Biology meeting by the American Physiological Society in Orlando, says that exercising during pregnancy improves the metabolic health of the baby.
For this study, researchers had a look at the offspring of mice that exercised for a whole hour during pregnancy. These mice were made to go for moderate intensity exercise and the results were compared to the control group of offspring of mice that didn’t exercise during pregnancy.
Not only did the results show that exercising mothers’ children gained less weight, but it also revealed that these children showed fewer symptoms of metabolic diseases. Researchers are looking to perform more studies to delve into this topic further.
This study showed that while women who exercised during pregnancy reduced their child’s risk of obesity, the opposite is also true. The women who do not exercise during pregnancy increase the risk of obesity for their child.
Exercise And Pregnancy
The benefits of exercising are many. Even pregnant women who exercise can benefit as the physical movement relieves stress, improves sleep, boosts energy, and betters mood. However, it is always better to consult your doctor and see what would work best for you.
Should you or shouldn’t you exercise considering everyone’s case is different and if you should, then which exercises should you go for, for not only getting the benefits yourself by passing them onto your upcoming baby as well.
A new study says that exercise during pregnancy is not only not a problem, but it is also good for the child in the womb. Previous studies have shown that when obese women exercise during pregnancy, their babies benefit.
Now this new research says that regardless of a woman’s weight exercising can benefit the metabolic health of the child. It lowers their risk of obesity as well. However, always consult a professional before choosing a pregnancy-approved exercise plan for yourself.
