The men's and women's golf teams are now well underway into their seasons and are proving that they both deserve a top spot this year.

The men's golf team continued their high place finish streak this past weekend in a tournament held from Oct. 8-10.  Senior Austin Reeves' (+5) final round of 68 lead Furman to a third place finish in the Big 5 Invitational at the par-70 Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Matt Broome, a fellow senior, said "Personally this is my last year of college golf before taking my game to the next level, so these college events mean a lot to me. Furman has provided me as well as my teammates [with] an excellent training ground to improve our games and reach the next level."

"Our team is very solid this year and we got off to a fast start with the team win," he said. "The return of fellow senior Austin Reeves, coming off a red-shirt year makes a huge difference to have a veteran back into the line-up. We have a great make-up of players on our team including some experienced players as well as freshman that have already made an impact by being on the winning travel squad."

The women's golf team improved greatly at the UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic at the par-71 Starmount Country Club, capturing a fifth place finish (306-306-309=921) in the tournament, which was held from Oct. 2-4. The strong finish can be largely credited to Alexa Rancourt (+10), who placed third in the tournament individually.  The team placed eighth (295-299-312= 906) at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, North Carolina this past week.  Laura Wearn (-3), a junior, stood out among her teammates finishing in second place in the tournament overall.

The women's team will continue their season with a tournament at home on Oct. 28-29, while the men's team will continue their season on Oct. 17-18 in Duluth, GA at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic.

Despite the tough competition they face, both teams hope to press on and make headway to the NCAA Nationals later this year.
