Cliffs Cottage begins free student tours

Cliffs Cottage begins free student tours
Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17, students will have the opportunity to visit the Cliffs Cottage for free on designated days. The cottage is the first Southern Living Showcase Home that is a model of "green" design, renewable energy and operating efficiency. Although Cliffs Cottage has received national attention, few students even realize it is there, let alone understand its benefits.

Newly formed office makes campus "green"

With the growing interest in sustainability and "green" practices, Furman has created the office of Sustainability and Environmental Education to further coordinate sustainability issues on campus. "There increasingly became more need for coordination, collaboration and communication about all the things that are ongoing here," said Angela Halfacre, an associate professor of political science and the director of Sustainability and Environmental Education, in reference to elevated environmental awareness and a plethora of sustainability initiatives on campus, such as the Lake Restoration Project, the organic garden, the Cliffs Cottage, the use of local and organic food in the dining hall and more.

Furmans plans for 50th anniversary

As anyone may have noticed by observing the banners hanging up around campus, this year is a historic one for Furman. The university is commemorating the 50th anniversary of its move to the current campus, and several events this year will celebrate the numerous changes the university has experienced over the half century.
