FRESH MEAT! Come and get it!! They've sounded the call! Soon murkiness from the depths of the unknown will be swooping over you, engulfing you until you feel so…small.

     Eh, not so much?

Well at least not anymore. Long gone are those first days of kindergarten when everyone is practically shaking in their boots wondering what school was going to be like, but you were still a freshman, just as you are now.  I seriously doubt any of our newcomers will be quivering in Sperry's, rainbows, sneakers, boots, or heels.  The only shivers are that of excitement — well placed excitement I'd say, but the questions still remain as they did many ages ago. Each person has their own concerns. Did I make the right decision? Will I actually fit here? Will people accept me?

Acceptance. That's all that everyone truly wants, especially the Freshies. In fact, you may never actually stop being a freshman. If you do stop, then you just aren't living. As Albert Einstein would say, "Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death."

Nothing worth doing is done without learning something new, hence the term fresh, and if you are a freshman, you will always seek out acceptance. Let me just say that being accepted comes from within. Once you accept yourself, so will many, many others, and here at ole FU you are sure to find that acceptance if you vow to keep an open mind.  The question is not if you are ready for Furman, but is Furman ready for you!

By the end of O-Week I hope everyone in the Class of 2015 will agree that you are not alone and no matter where you go you will be accepted if you accept yourself.  So my freshmen of the world, my hat's off to you.  Always be proud to be a freshman.  No matter what has happened in your past and despite your background, this is YOUR time to shine with the new knowledge you gain. So there's only one real question to ask: What will you do with it?
